Reducing scar tissue after having breast implants

Breast enhancement is a plastic surgery procedure that will involve the making of an incision which means there will always be some scar tissue left that has to be dealt with afterwards.  Procedures such as   thigh lifts, breast lifts, tummy tucks and skin removing procedures will leave you with a scar that ends up becoming hardened and can actually cause itchy skin.

Causes of scar tissue

Scar tissue is usually a collection of collagen which is a substance that naturally occurs on the skin and it is the way the body tries to deal with trauma. However, in some people scar tissue ends up causing more problems in future than had been anticipated. The amount of scar tissue that develops depends on the size and depth of incision as well as the way the skin tries to fit together after placing the sutures.

Removing scar tissue

Scar tissue can be removed but you must talk to your doctor before trying any of these methods:

Silicone based bandage: You can use a silicone based bandage or sheet because there is evidence that they actually reduce the size of the scar. You may need to use the bandage and sheeting daily if you want to get better results. Silicone found in creams and gels can also provide similar results on your scar tissue.

Apply a cortisone cream: Cortisone is an active ingredient that des very well in softening scars and with time it will cause then to shrink. You must however make sure that the wound is healed completely before putting this or any other topical application on the scar tissue

Pressure bandages: Scar tissue on your breast can be flattened by pressure bandages applied on them. Even though this is a slow process that could take months it is actually effective.

Vitamin E supplements: You could also reduce scar tissue after breast implant by supplementing your diet with vitamin E supplements. You however need to discuss the correct dosage with a specialist before you begin taking any food supplement.

Skin resurfacing: If you realize that scar tissue has formed along the incision line perhaps you could discuss skin resurfacing with your doctor in order to improve the scar site’s general appearance. Some of the treatments that can be effective include microdermabrasion, dermabrasion and laser therapy. All these treatments involve the removal of the upper layer of the skin and giving a chance to new cells whose tone and texture will be consistent with the rest of the body to develop.

Surgical removal: Last but least you can have the scar tissue removed surgically if the scarring is so severe around the implant. The implant will have to be removed first and the returned when the scar tissue has been successfully removed.
